Patience Jonathan Undergoes Plastic / Cosmetic Surgery In Germany ?

According to National mirror sources, Nigeria's first lady might not
be suffering from either food poisoning or ruptured appendicitis as
widely claimed by her sources.
Presidency sources said the wife of the president might have gone
for full have gone for full body work that included tummy tuck in
Germany."
Tummy Tuck aka Abdominoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure for
the removal of excess skin and fat from the lower abdominal portion of
the belly in order to tighten the muscle of the abdominal wall. This
is an aggressive weight loss surgery.
The wife of ex-president, Obasanjo (late Stell Obasanjo) went through
the same procedure few years ago. Stella later died in Coma after the
surgery. The President is said to have been informed about the new
twist and may have given his nod for a socialite and wife of a retired
top military officer, who
is a close confidant of the First Lady, to be questioned.
A source in the Presidency said the socialite woman, who is a
confidant of Mrs. Jonathan, might be questioned over her role in the
medical state of the First Lady.
"Mr. President is worried about the role of a friend of his wife in
the whole health saga. The woman knows so much and she may be
questioned on her role an involvement in the health status of the
First Lady," a source said.
The First Lady is currently recuperating in a German hospital, Horst
Schmidt Klinik, in Wiesbaden.
Late President Yar'Adua died in the same hospital after unsuccessful
treatment for kidney related ailment.
"All I can tell you is that Mrs. Jonathan undergone surgery and he is
in a stable condition. She is out of medical danger," a Presidency
source told National Mirror yesterday.

French firm fined N94.2m for bribing Nigerian officials

A report from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and
Development that was leaked in July said French authorities lacked the
resources to fight possible corruption in big export contracts.

Prosecutors had originally sought to have the Safran case dismissed,
but did not lodge any formal request at the trial in June. The court
let off two of the company's executives for whom the prosecutors had
sought a suspended sentence of up to 18 months and fines of 15,000
Euros each.

Like all members of the OECD, France is part of the convention which
criminalises bribery of foreign officials.

The Federal Government had in 2001 awarded a contract worth $214m to a
consortium led by French firm, Sagem, for the production of identity
cards for all Nigerian citizens.

The contract was marred in 2003 by allegations that Nigerian officials
collected more than $2m bribes to influence the award of the contract.

The case involving former Internal Affairs Ministers, the late Chief
Sunday Afolabi and  Alhaji Mahammed Shatta; former Labour Minister,
Hussain Akwanga and a former PDP National Chairman, Dr. Okwesilieze
Nwodo, has not been resolved.

Only a few Nigerians received identity cards under the scheme.

Nwodo was among Nigerian officials  arrested, arraigned and detained  in 2003.

He was prosecuted alongside others indicted in the scam, but the case
was struck out on technical grounds but was not discharged.

The National Identity Management Commission established by the NIMC
Act of 2007 has taken over the functions, assets and liabilities of
the Department of the National Civil Registration which handled the
identity card contract.

Attempts to speak with the Director-General of NIMC, Dr. Chris
Onyemenem, on Wednesday proved abortive as he neither picked calls to
his mobile phone nor replied text messages sent to him on the issue.

When contacted on Wednesday, the Head  of Media and Publicity,
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Wilson Uwujeren,
promised to get back to our correspondents since the issues concerned
took place "as far back as 2003." culled from punchng.com

Heavy Fire Destroy Ibadan Market , properties worth Millions

Traders at Labaowo Market, Ogunpa, in Ibadan North West Local
Government of Oyo State were on Wednesday thrown into confusion when a
section of the market was razed by fire. The market went up in flames
at around 10am as an
inflammable product (adhesive) allegedly caught fire destroying items
worth millions of naira. The President, Labaowo International Market,
Alhaji Lukmon Alaka, said tragedy struck when a woman opened a can of
gum near another woman who was cooking.
Alaka said, "A woman was cooking noodles beside her
when the place went up in flames following an explosion. The shops
went up in flames." He, however, stated that traders at the market had
been warned against cooking in the market.
According to him, three people with five buildings were
affected by the inferno. However, he said no life was lost
in the incident.
Those injured were said to have been taken to an undisclosed
hospital where they were treated and discharged. Recalling that it was
the second time the market would be razed by fire, Alaka said close to
one billion naira
worth of property were destroyed. The chairman, while calling on the
state government to provide fire station in the market, solicited
assistance for victims of the inferno.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Oyo
State Command, Mr. Musa Kimo, who was at the scene,
said they were expected to protect the people and ensure that hoodlums
did not take advantage of the situation.

Boko Haram Again Bomb MTN, Glo, Airtel Base Stations

Telecoms services were on Wednesday disrupted in Borno, Bauchi, Yobe,
Gombe and Kano states following the bombing of telecoms base stations
by suspected terrorists.
Our correspondent gathered that base stations belonging to MTN,
Globacom, Airtel might have been affected in the multiple attacks that
jolted Borno, Bauchi, Yobe and Gombe states. Experts, who described
the attacks as detrimental to
telecoms growth in the country, said they were suggestive of wilful
damage by unscrupulous elements.
As a result, the quality of service in the affected states has taken
a downturn as interconnection of telecoms infrastructure has become
severely limited. The Chairman, Association of Licensed
Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria, Mr. Gbenga Adebayo, confirmed
the development to our correspondent in a telephone interview on
Wednesday.
Quoting security sources, Reuters, however, reported that similar
attacks also occurred in Kano and Maiduguri.Adebayo said, "We have
received reports about some telecoms sites being destroyed by some
agents in some parts of northern Nigeria. The details are not clear
yet, but we have been told that a number of operators' sites were
affected and they appear, from first view, as wilful damage to those
infrastructure.
"We were told that some sites were bombed and they belong to
different operators, which means that the act cut across many
networks."
Reuters further reported that one of its reporters saw 10 masts burnt
to the ground in Maiduguri on Wednesday morning and local residents
complained there was no mobile telephone reception. In Kano, men on
motorbikes reportedly destroyed MTN and Airtel mobile phone masts in
the early hours of Wednesday, a policeman told Reuters, asking not to
be named.
He said the Boko Haram sect was suspected to be behind the attack.
The Islamic sect had reportedly threatened recently to cause immense
damage to telecoms operators' facilities for allegedly providing
information that had helped securities agencies tracked its members.
Analysts said the Wednesday attacks might be connected to the threat
by the suspected terrorists.Reuters also reported that sources close
to the sect said Boko Haram members had in the past been concerned
that they might be traced through mobile phones.
The Corporate Services Executive, MTN, Mr. Akinwale Goodluck, who
equally confirmed the attacks, said, "It is true because we received
reports today (Wednesday) that telecommunications towers of major
telecoms operators were being bombed. However, I cannot tell you, for
now, how many of our base stations or other telecoms infrastructures
were affected because information available to us is still scanty."
Goodluck, however, said that security agencies had commenced
investigation into the attacks and the extent of damage, adding that
the result would be made available for accurate reporting. Speaking in
the same vein, the General Manager, Corporate Communications, MTN,
Mrs. Funmilayo
Omogbenigun, who earlier confirmed the situation to
Reuters, said, "We confirm that like all the other major telcos, some
of MTN installations in northern Nigeria have been damaged by unknown
persons. All the relevant government security agencies have been
informed and we are receiving their full cooperation."

Why Women Choose Ramsey Nouah and Tuface Idibia and Bad Boys too ?

Women choose bad boys because their hormones make them, new research
suggests. When woman's ovulate hormones influence who she sees as good
potential fathers, and they specifically pick sexier men over
obviously more dependable men.
"Previous research has shown in the week near ovulation women become
attracted to sexy, rebellious and handsome men like Ramsey Nouah or
Tuface idibia"
"But until now it was unclear why women would ever think it's wise to
pursue long-term relationships with these kinds of men."The study was
published today, May 14, in the Journal
of Personality and Social Psychology.
The researchers had women view online dating profiles of either a sexy
man or a reliable man during periods of both high and low fertility.
Participants were asked to indicate the expected paternal contribution
from the men if they had a child together based on how helpful the man
would be caring for the baby, shopping for food, cooking and
contributing to household chores.
Near ovulation women thought that the sexy man would
contribute more to these domestic duties. "Under the hormonal
influence of ovulation, women delude themselves into thinking that the
sexy bad boys will become devoted partners and better dads.
Research followed up and studied that women interacted directly with
male actors who played the roles of sexy cad and reliable dad once
during ovulation and again at low fertility.
Again, ovulating women thought that the sexy cad — but
not the reliable dad — would contribute more to childcare, but only as
her partner (not if he shacked up with another woman)
" you may ask what kind of father the sexy bad boy would make if he
were to have children with another woman, women were quick to point
out the bad boy's shortcomings,"But when it came to their own child,
ovulating women believed that the
charismatic and adventurous cad would be a great father to their kids."
"While this psychological distortion could be setting some women up to
choose partners who are better suited to be short-term mates, missing
a mating opportunity with a sexy cad might be too costly for some
women to pass up, "After all, you never know if he could be the
'one.'"
