BREAKUP : DIRTY SECRETS UNFOLD IN COURT

A grade 'A' Customary Court in Agege, Lagos, became a theatre of sorts
when a couple pleading that their marriage be dissolved presented
their case to the court. They also did what can only be described as
washing their dirty linen in the public.

Adesuwa Oluwalere, the petitioner, who lives at 18b, Kayode Joseph
St., Powerline, Oke- ira, Ogba, told the court that her husband had
made love to her in the presence of her mother. She told the court to
dissolve her 12-year-old marriage over threat to her life and frequent
beating.

According to her, "My husband had wanted to make love to me in the
presence of our children but I refused. He then beat me mercilessly to
the extent of removing one of my teeth… If my husband has money, he
won't give me and the children, he prefers to go to the club and
declare surplus and when the money is finished, he comes home to steal
my money."

She continues: "We live in one room but my husband won't wait till mid
night when our children will be asleep before drawing my pants… My
husband started going to white garment church since April and so he
brings home different colours of candle, he told me that his priest
said he should throw me out of the house… He left the church we were
both going because he accused me of going out with our pastor and I am
fed up with all of this behaviour, " she said. She then told the court
that she wanted the marriage to be dissolved and also wanted the
custody of the children.

However, in his own response, the husband, Ibukun, 39, denied some of
the allegations. His own case: "My wife flirts with different men; she
even goes to the extent of sending money and recharge cards to them
from my money… I traced her to where she was going one day and saw her
entering an hotel, the man she was going to meet had already waited
for her… She, however, told me she was going to night vigil in the
church. When she came back the next morning, I saw that her pant was
wet with sperm. So, why won't I beat her?"

"I saw a lot of love text messages on her phone, and the account
number of one of her lovers and the one she sent to him that she had
paid the money… She has denied me sex since April because she goes
about sleeping with different men, whereas I don't have a girl
friend," he said.

Also, in a rather funny twist to their story, Ibukun told the court
that if his wife was ready to reconcile with him, she had to be three
month pregnant for him: "I told her in April that I still want a
fourth child and she denied me access to herself. I am ready to take
her back if she agrees to my terms," he said.

Meanwhile, in his ruling the Court President, Mr Emmanuel Sokunle told
the couple to go back home and call their families for settlement:
"Maintain the peace while you are on reconciliation moves," he
advised. He then adjourned the case to Oct. 22, for further hearing.

BBC APOLOGIZES TO QUEEN ELIZABETH OVER PRIVATE TALK REVELATION

The BBC has apologized to Britain's Queen Elizabeth II after a
reporter revealed the monarch was "pretty upset" that British
officials had failed to arrest radical Muslim cleric Abu Hamza
al-Masri.

Usually private conversations with members of Britain's royal family
remain private. But in an extraordinary breach of this convention on
BBC Radio 4, security correspondent Frank Gardner said the queen told
him she had asked a government official why Hamza remained at large
during his days as the imam of a mosque in London.

The revelation that the queen had personally lobbied a government
official over Hamza, convicted in Britain for soliciting murder and
inciting hatred in 2006, came as Gardner was discussing Hamza's
probable extradition to the U.S. on terror charges.

Speaking to Today program host James Naughtie, Gardner said:
"Actually, I can tell you that the queen was pretty upset that he was,
this man was, there was no way to arrest him.

She couldn't understand why – surely there must have been some law he
must have broken. Well in the end, sure enough there was. He was
eventually convicted and sentenced for 7 years for soliciting murder
and inciting racial hatred."

Naughtie, clearly taken aback by Gardner's revelation of a private
conversation he'd had with the queen, called the disclosure a "corker"
and said, "That's a fascinating piece of information, Frank." Gardner
replied: "Yes, I thought I'd drop that in – she told me."

Garnder said: "She spoke to the home secretary at the time and said,
'surely this man must have broken some laws, why is he still at
large?'"

The queen rarely expresses her opinions – let alone political views –
in public. Her role is to stay above politics, so Gardner's disclosure
is a rare insight into how she privately engaged with Britain's
government on a specific subject.

CNN's Royal Correspondent Max Foster says the convention for anyone
meeting the queen at a palace event is that the conversation is
private. He said: "If you accept the invitation, you accept that
anything said is off the record."

In a statement on its website, the BBC wrote: "This morning on the
Today programme our correspondent Frank Gardner revealed details of a
private conversation which took place some years ago with the Queen."

"The conversation should have remained private and the BBC and Frank
deeply regret this breach of confidence. It was wholly inappropriate.
Frank is extremely sorry for the embarrassment caused and has
apologised to the Palace."

When reached for a comment, a Buckingham Palace spokesman told CNN:
"We never comment on private conversations."

BOKO HARAM: ELECTION LOSERS SPONSORS BOKO HARAM – ORITSEJAFOR

The President of the Christian Association Of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor
Ayo Oritsejafor has debunked the claims that poverty was the major
cause for the emergence of the Boko Haram sect, that it was aggrieved
bitter persons who lost their electoral bid that are responsible for
the creation of the sect.

Saying this at the opening of a six-days meeting of the Niger Delta
Christian Leaders Forum in Calabar, Cross River State, he said
sponsors of the Islamic sect want to divide the country along the
religious line.

Boko Haram is a fundamentalist Islamic religious group created and
sponsored by selfish politicians, who want to create political space
for themselves and in the vent of failure to achieve that, resort to
dividing Nigeria along religious line, he further stated.

He said: "Boko Haram is fueled by extreme religious ideology and not
poverty because they have not come out to tell us that they are
killing people because they are poor or hungry."

Oritsejafor said the claim that Boko Haram was a creation of poverty
was a blatant lie by those sponsoring the organisation or its
apologists just to mislead Nigerians and the world.

"The leader of Boko Harm is from a very wealthy family background and
even that young man who wanted to blow up an American airline, his
father was a retired Permanent Secretary and one of the richest men in
Nigeria. The claim that the fundamentalist group was created by
poverty is a false claim by its sponsors and apologists," he said.

May D has been in the news recently especially following his
disengagement from Square Records owned by Psquare. Thereafter, it was
rumoured that the singer who emerged in the Nigerian music scene in
2008, may sign with Davido's HKN label. In the same vein, there was
speculation that he was going to be unveiled soon as a Chocoltae City

MAN ARRESTED FOR THROWING HOT WATER, BURNING STOVE ON WIFE

Oladimeji Fowowe ,a middle-aged man has been arrested by the police at
Iju  Police Station Red House, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, for
allegedly setting his wife on fire, when he threw a burning stove and
hot water on her.

The suspect, who trailed his wife to Ijoko in Ogun State, southwest
Nigeria where she had gone to assist her husband's younger brother's
wife who had just put to bed a set of twins, was alleged to have
committed the crime when his wife returned to Iju area of Ishaga,
Lagos State from Ijoko

The victim,  Mrs. Oluwakemi Fowowe, said she left her husband and
father of her three children, when his trouble and that of his mother
became unbearable for her.

"I was at the passage facing outside not knowing that my husband had
sneaked through the back door and the next thing I heard was a loud
noise as he threw both the burning stove and a pot of hot water on me.
"My body caught fire and I ran outside, shouting for help before
people assisted me in putting out the fire. I became unconscious
before I was rushed to the hospital, where the doctors battled to
revive me. I want all well-meaning Nigerians to come to my aid as I
have no one to help me,''she moaned in pains
Oladimeji was subsequently arrested and handed over to the police at
Iju Police Station, where he was detained but he was later granted
bail.

His wife's family said he should not be sent to jail because of the
three children his wife had for him. But he was advised to take care
of the victim.

However, the wife's family decided to press charges against him when
he failed to honour  his side of the agreement, to take care of the
victim. He allegedly  abandoned her in the hospital.
Oladimeji, who had earlier told the police that his action was the
handiwork of the devil, has gone underground to evade arrest.   The
victim is appealing to well-meaning Nigerians to come to her aid as
she requires about N400,000 for the treatment of the burns.(pmreports)

Snoop Dogg appreciated Ronaldo's style on and off the pitch

NEW YORK -- You may not know this, but rapper Snoop Dogg is an old
school soccer fan.
Goal.com caught up with Snoop for a few minutes at a promotional event
on Monday night, and the hip-hop legend spit some soccer knowledge
when asked about his favorite soccer
player: Ronaldo.

"That's Ronaldo from Brazil from back in the day," he told Goal.com.
"When I first started watching soccer, going to Europe for the first
time, he was the one who was the most
dynamic to me. I loved the way he played. He played with a lot of
style, he was good and he had the different hairstyles. His hair was
pretty."

Snoop currently keeps tabs on the U.S. national team. He participated
in a charity flag football game with Hope Solo. earlier this year and
appreciates the Olympic gold medal-
winning goalkeeper's attitude.

"She's a rider," he said. "I played with her in a celebrity flag game
and she's tough. I know she's tough on that soccer field because she
was tough in that flag game, and we were playing
insane."

But while Snoop is a fan of soccer, it appears that his heart will
always be with American football. The "Gin and Juice" rapper has a
charity called the Snoop Youth Football League, which brings
inner-city youngsters onto the football field to help them
learn life values.

Snoop is currently promoting FIFA 2013, but he's never going to give
up on the Madden franchise. "I love Madden, I can't live without it,"
he said with a smile.

HEALTH FACT : NEW CANCER TREATMENT DISCOVERED IN NIGERIA

Research in new methods for the treatment of cancer has reached an
advanced stage by Nigerian scholars. The new method would be different
from the present means of treatment of  cancer and related diseases
through chemotherapy.

The  President of the African University of Science and Technology
(AUST ), Abuja, Professor Wole Soboyejo, disclosed this  yesterday  at
the opening ceremony of a five-day workshop on Nanomedicine and
Bio-Micro-Electrical Systems (BIOMEMS)  organised by the Federal
University of Technology, Minna in collaboration with AUST.

According to him, the new method of treatment would be more effective
than chemotherapy as the medicine is selective because when
administered it will have direct effect on the region of the disease.

He explained that the present form of treatment was different because
it must go through all the blood vessels before attacking the area of
the disease.

He listed the advantages of  the new treatment to include less or no
side effects on human body unlike chemotherapy that has side effect
and is less cost effective because patients need to take large number
of dosages of the medicine before it could go round the body to have
impact on the affected areas.

Soboyejo said the new method had started eight years ago and had
proven to be effective after testing it on animals adding that it
would soon be tested on human beings.

He however said that to administer the new treatment , it must be
through injection while pointing out that the workshop  was aimed at
bringing young scholars and scientists on board for their contribution
for the final outcome.

CONTROVERSIAL ARTIST :I TAKE MONEY FROM OSHIOMOLE BECAUSE HE IS A GOOD GOVERNOR – EEDRIS ABDULKAREEM

Prolific Nigerian pop music artiste and 'Nigeria Jaja-jaga' crooner,
Eedris Abdulkareem, says that he accepts money from the Edo State
Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, because he loves to be identified
only with Governors that are popularly acknowledged to be 'doing
well'.

The pop artiste declared this position during last Saturday's
SaharaTV's Inspiration segment with Omoyele Sowore, in effect saying
he could not accept a gift from those politicians who are failing to
serve the people.  During the interview, Eedris also talked about his
famous feud with Nigeria's former President, Olusegun Obasanjo; his
tussle on a plane with American rapper 50cent; and other controversial
issues.

On former President Obasanjo, Eeedris opted to refer to the embattled
man as 'Baba' throughout the interview.  He insisted that he has never
taken money from Obasanjo, nor did he assume a low profile for some
time after he
released his famous Jaga-jaga album because he was jittery.

"I have never collected any money from Baba before. Eedris Abdulkareem
is a social crusader and my responsibility is to use music to add
values to the lives of common people who can't speak for themselves",
he declared.

"As a social crusader, back in 2000, I came up with "Mr. Lecturer,"
which talked about sexual harassment on our campuses and "Jaga-jaga"
came up after millions of youths voted me to represent them at the
Olympic Torch Relay, which automatically made me an authority as an
Olympic Torchbearer, and my responsibility is to speak for my people."

Eedris pointed out that the former president became angry at him after
he released the Jaga-jaga album.  The title, he told SaharaTV, was
adopted from a childhood game and suggests things gone awry.  He
further said that the Jaga-jaga album was motivated by his aspiration
to reflect the ills in the Nigerian society occasioned by widespread
corruption and the selfish activities of the country's rulers.

Attempting to clarify the stoic silence which followed the threat from
the former President after his famous Jaga-jaga album and his
subsequent behavior which seemed to have been aimed at reconciling
with the Government, Eedris said his album which followed Jaga-jaga
was 'Letter to Mr. President'.
That album, he said was to explain to the Government what he meant by
Jaga-jaga in his prior album that had seen him crossing swords with
Obasanjo.  He denied that his subsequent meeting with Obasanjo's
successor, Late President Yar' Adua, was to engineer peace with the
Government and to regain his "restricted" freedom into the society.

"What I went to see President Yar' Adua for was different from
Obasanjo and the Nigerian problem. I went to discuss with him to
endorse Kora Awards. Also, have this at the back of your mind that
President Yar' Adua was a Chemistry teacher back then when I was in
Kano, so I know the Yar' Adua family very well", Eedris narrated.  He
expressed the opinion that the late President Yar'Adua, with whom he
enjoyed presidential cordiality, was the best ever to rule the
country.

Asked about his thoughts on a recent musical video by Rick Ross which
portrays musical artistes as individuals solely interested in money,
Eedris heaped condemnation on Rick Ross, saying he doesn't watch or
give recognition to such artistes.
"I don't watch people like that because they don't add value to my
life, my country and my people," he said.  "People like Rick Ross who
act songs that talk about champagne, illuminati, money and all that
are not adding values to our lives. So, I don't recognize people like
that and I don't listen to their kind of songs. I am a social crusader
and I love songs that will add values to the lives of my people.  You
should not come to Africa and say because you see people are poor you
are throwing money at people. That is stupid; it is disrespect to my
people," he said.

Eedris suggested a realistic way to show interest in helping our poor
people.  "If they want to add value to people, what I expect them to
do is to come down and put up a non-governmental organization that
will take care of anything that has to do with food shortage that the
United Nations and the World Bank are talking about," he said.

"Most of the American Artistes that come over to Nigeria should have
this at the back of their minds that they are also Africans: that 500
years ago, their great grandfathers were taken away from Badagry.  So,
they are slaves and whenever they are coming to Africa, they should
come and add values and not take the huge money we pay them to come
and teach us sex, drugs and how many gunshots they had in their body",
he also said.

On the spat with 50cent, he narrated how, on a flight, he resisted a
discriminatory attempt by 50cent and his group of about 22 bodyguards
who ordered him out of First Class and he fought them and refused to
be humiliated.  Eedris said he had insisted to the face of 50cent that
the latter wasn't superior to him.  He posited that the Nigerian
Breweries company who organized the show that paired him with 50cent
was responsible for the situation.

After the battle on the plane, Eedris said, "When we got to the
airport and he [50cent] saw the way I was received, he asked me to
come and have a handshake but I told him I'm a student of history and
I know how their forefathers were slave-traded in Badagry 500 years
ago. You know what? 50cent had to go back to America," Eedris
narrated.

He however admitted that few months after he took a stern stand
against that behavior in the air by 50cent, he went on his knees to
beg 50cent few months after that in South Africa. Eedris said that he
apologized to 50cent because he wanted to remain at peace with him.

"I wasn't apologizing because of what popped up. I was apologizing
knowing the fact that he came through a wrong politics, he didn't know
anything. I had to do that to give him another opportunity because we
Africans are good people and we are hospitable. I had to apologize to
him because every action I took the other time was on Nigerian
breweries, not against 50cent", said Eedris.

The pop artiste also reacted to a recent statement by President
Goodluck Jonathan in which he alleged that the January Occupy Nigeria
protest rally was stage-managed.  Eedris, as an activist, was also
part of the Occupy Nigeria movement in Lagos which shut down major
activities in the country. He dismissed the President's statement as
mere political propaganda, stressing that the stretch of the duration
of the Occupy Nigeria protest, which was longer than the usual
two-days that was expected by the Federal Government, was a clear
indication that the people were fed up with the situation in the
country and were willing to protest for as long as possible.

But on what borders on Eedris Abdulkareem's controversial moral stand,
Eedris confirmed on the show that he takes money from Edo State
Governor, Adams Oshiomole. Even though Eedris had criticized the likes
of D'banj for taking money from President Goodluck Jonathan, the
admission seemed to have cast him as operating different standards.

Obviously miffed by the unexpected question, Eedris argued that he
collected money from Adams Oshiomole of Edo State because the later
was a Comrade and a good Governor. Eedris reiterated that he would
love to identify with Fashola, Tinubu, Rochas and Oshiomole because
they fixed roads and improved education in their States, and he would
therefore be free to collect money from them.  After all, "it is our
money," he said.

The segment anchor, Omoyele Sowore asked Eedris whether taking money
from Governor Adams Oshiomole has no effect on his moral stand as he
had accused D'Banj of the same practice.  An angered Eedris said his
own was justifiable because his own benefactor was doing well.  "When
Oshiomole won, he said, 'Eedris come, we have won.' We fought it
together," the activist said.

Continuing, he told his interviewer, "It is very justifiable because
Oshiomole is a good Governor, so what are you going to say about it?
He is doing very well and that is my service that I'm rendering. And
also, to put it straight to you,
Goodluck Jonathan and his so-called ex-president have not done what
these Governors have been able to do in less than two years. So, what
are you saying about that?  If you don't like it, eat it."

As his segment of the show rounded off, Eedris chanted: "I love
Fashola, New Nigeria; I love Oshiomole, New Nigeria; I love Rochas,
New Nigeria; Sahara, Odabo o!"

8-MONTH OLD PREGNANT WOMAN KILLED FOR STEALING ON EBONYI FARM

Mrs. Grace Nwangwu, an eight-month-old pregnant woman,  was weekend,
killed  in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State while she was
reportedly trying to steal some food crops in a farm near her house at
midnight.

The woman was alleged to be sleeping on the same bed with her husband,
Mgbebu till midnight when she left to ease herself outside but
reportedly went to farm at Igbudu Community to harvest some food crops
and was killed by her assailant.

In a neighbouring Imo State, one Madam Rose Chibuike  was also said to
have narrowly escaped being beheaded by an attacker along a lonely
road at Umezeala, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state by a
machete-wielding man.
Investigations revealed that Madam Chibuike, who runs a pepper-soup
joint in Umuezeala, is a native of Ikperejere, Ihitte Uboma Local
Government Area of the state.

However, narrating how his pregnant wife was murdered, the deceased's
husband, Mr. Nwangwu said: "My wife got up around 12  midnight and
left the house. She said she was going to ease herself. As she did not
come back after some time, I became panicky and went looking for her
but to no avail. For the fact that she was nearing delivery, I
increased my search for my wife.
"I took a short cut and it paid off. The footpath shortened my search
as I suddenly met the lifeless corpse of my wife, lying face down on
the ground with the pregnancy.

''When I saw the lifeless body of my wife I raised an alarm which
attracted other villagers to the scene; who then alerted the police
before we made a random search for her killer. In the process, I
learnt that the villagers traced spills of blood to a nearby cassava
farm where it was suspected that the woman met her waterloo."
However, when the deceased body which was lying face down was later
turned, a deep wound was discovered around her abdomen as the body was
still oozing out blood.''

Contacted, Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy
Superintendent Sylvester Igbo,  confirmed the story, adding that
investigation had commenced  to ascertain the circumstances behind the
murder.
Also narrating her ordeal to journalists from her hospital bed, Madam
Chibuike who espcaped from her assailant said: "There is every reason
to believe that my attacker wanted to behead me on that lonely road."
According to the lucky woman, she instinctively raised her left hand
in self defence when she realised that her life was in danger, adding
that her attacker ended up cutting off her hand.

She said that she was returning from her landlord's house when she was
ambushed on the lonely road by the man who she identified as her
customer and a native of Umunakanu (names withheld).
