Bollywood King ; Shahrukh Khan turns 47 today
As Shahrukh Khan turns 47 today, we cherry-pick quotes from the
superstar that have inspired us, made us grin and helped us discover a
different dimension of his personality
Born on November 2, 1965, Shahrukh Khan is also known as the 'Badshah
of Bollywood'.
And if you are one of those hardcore Shahrukh Khan fans who stops
surfing TV channels whenever he appears onscreen and listens to his
interviews with rapt attention, you
must have noticed that the actor has the habit contradicting him at
every given point- and we find that very endearing.
Substantiating our opinions, the actor himself said in an interview
that 'We aren't human if we don't contradict ourselves'. So if he
claims to be a luxury freak in one interview, in the very next confab
don't be surprised if you hear him claiming that the finer things in
life don't matter
to him much.
Khan makes you discover something interesting about him every time he
opens his mouth. And since his wit, his presence of mind and his
quirky perspective form such an integralp part of his personality, we
thought that extracting cool quotes by Khan from diverse places – from
websites to tabloids – would be the best way to celebrate his
birthday.

Fame and love is a gift from God
and for that reason alone
I feel rich than 10 Bill Gates put together
But at the end of it all, you come to
Bombay, and there's a side of you
that nobody's seen. People now say,
he's stylish, intelligent, etc. Nobody
sees that basically I'm quite a
cheapster from Delhi.
Sometimes girls say they like me. I
don't know what to say, so before
she thinks I'm foolish or asexual, I
just say something funny. The best
way to kill romance is to joke.
I don't mind people criticising my
films. But when things get personal, I
don't like it. I know for every 50
people in the industry who don't like
my film for personal reasons, there
are 30 million people out there who
love it.
There are times I feel extremely
lonely and talking to my dogs seems
the only option Age is not my forte either. I still
cannot fix my own – am I 45 or 15?
If I could, would I be romancing girls
one third my age who normally
would call me 'Uncle'?
I momentarily lose my ability to give
up and close up. And here's where
the trick is – when you are in this
place of despair, where the world is
staring you down into yourself,
there's only one thing you can do to
survive: hang on to who you are
inside.
For someone who doesn't even like
love stories, I've played an awful lot
of lovers.
I don't like the trappings of stardom.
I wear the shoes and the Dolce &
Gabbana because I am told to. But I
am not trapped by it.
I am very shy. If I am flying British
Airways and the airhostess asks me
two questions, and I don't
understand her accent – I will go
hungry for the entire flight.
I believe in having long lasting
relationships. So you see, I'm still
with Gauri. These relationships,
according to me, cannot be changed,
off and on. I belong to the middle
class thought of school and I am
happy with my Gauri.

Aliko Dangote made the list of world’s richest people.
Nigerian business mogul Aliko Dangote has made Bloomberg's list of
world's richest people.
Bloomberg Markets' inaugural list of the world's richest people, in
the magazine's December 2012 issue, showcases the billionaires who
pull the levers on the global economy.
As noted on the magazine's website, the ranking shows who's on top
(America Movil SAB Chairman Emeritus Carlos Slim, with a net worth of
$77.5 billion), who's faltering (Facebook Inc. Chief Executive Officer
Mark Zuckerberg, who's down $6.8 billion since Jan. 1) and who's just
wealthy enough to make the top 200 (SAS Institute Inc. co-founder John
Sall, who's worth $5.8 billion).
Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, both in the top five, are household
names. At the number 3 position is the relatively unknown Amancio
Ortega of Spain. The 76-year-old founded Inditex SA, the world's
largest clothing retailer, which is known for its more than 1,600
trendy Zara stores. He made more than $18 billion from the start of
the year through Oct. 5 or about $66 million a day.
Aliko Dangote came 62nd on the list with a total net worth of $13.5
billion. The 55 year-old Chairman of Dangote Group has made another
$3.5 billion so far this year, increasing his wealth by 34.5%
Dangote is not the only African on the list. Egypt's Nassef Sawiris
was listed on the 141th position having a net worth of $7.8 billion.
South Africa's Nicky Oppenheimer and Johann Rupert made the 147th and
187th positions respectively. Their net worths are $7.6 billion and
$6.2 billion. This still leaves Aliko Dangote as the richest man in
Africa.
Aliko Dangote has worked his way to the top and has dragged Nigeria
along, as he continues to put the country's name on world map. The
self-made business magnate has a knack for seeing opportunities where
others can't. The patriotic Nigerian once said; "Let me tell you this
and I want to really emphasize it…nothing is going to help Nigeria
like Nigerians bringing back their money. If you give me $5 billion
today, I will invest everything here in Nigeria. Let us put our heads
together and work."

largest clothing retailer, which is known for its more than 1,600
trendy Zara stores.

Mother 'beat son, 7, to death then set fire to his body' because he struggled to learn the Koran off by Heart.
A mother brutally beat her seven-year-old son to death with a stick
then set his body on fire because he was struggling to commit passages
from the Koran to memory, a court was told.
Sara Ege, 32, is alleged to have beaten Yaseen Ali 'like a dog' for
failing to recite passages from the religious text, before burning his
body at the family home in Cardiff to try and cover up what she had
done.
The youngster's death was initially believed to be a tragic accident
following the blaze at the house in Pontcanna, until a post-mortem
examination revealed Yaseen had died before
the fire broke out, Cardiff Crown Court heard.
Beaten: Yaseen Ali, seven, was beaten by his mother for falling behind
with his Islamic studies, a court heard Accused:
The trial at Cardiff Crown Court heard how the university graduate and
her husband Yousuf Ege had enrolled Yaseen in advanced classes at
their local mosque and hoped he would become Hafiz - an Islamic term
for someone who has memorised the Koran.
But the court was told fun-loving Yaseen preferred to play with his
friends and fell behind with his learning.
Funeral: Cardiff Crown Court has heard Ege grew increasingly
frustrated with her seven-year-old son for failing to learn passages
from the Koran
Tragedy: Ege allegedly hit her child with a hammer, a rolling pin and
a slipper as well as punching him repeatedly
'I was getting more and more frustrated,' Ege said in the interview.
'If he didn't read it properly I would be very angry - I would hit him.
'But Yaseen wasn't very good - after a year of practice he had only
learned a chapter."
She went on: 'I was getting all this bad stuff in my head, like I
couldn't concentrate, I was getting angry too much, I would shout at
Yaseen all the time.
'I was getting very wild - I use to beat him with a stick.'
The court was told how Ege hit Yaseen with a hammer, a rolling pin and
a slipper as well as repeatedly punching him.
She would also allegedly lock him in the shed, tie him to a door, and
force him to do push ups.
The court heard that in the months after Yaseen's death Ege told a
doctor she had been told to kill her son by Shaitan - an Islamic name
for the devil - and that she felt 100 per cent
better after he died.
She denies murdering Yaseen and burning his body to hide what she had done.
Her husband denies causing or allowing the death of a child by not
stopping his wife's beatings.
Yaseen's father, who would drive the seven- year-old to mosque for his
Koran practice before and after school, has said he never saw his wife
raise a hand against their child.
The trial continues.

94 FOREIGN TRAINED MEDICAL DOCTORS OUT OF 200 PASS TEST TO ENABLE THEM PRACTICE IN NIGERIA
n a bid to rid the country of medical practitioners who parade foreign
earned certificates but are not adequately qualified, the Medical and
Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), in July 2012, announced that no
foreign trained Doctor will be allowed to practice in Nigeria from
October 2012, except incontrovertible evidence is provided to prove
that he or she could have practised in their country of study.
In keeping true to their words, the council recently organised an
assessment test for such Doctors and out of 200 of them who sat for
the tests, only 94 of them (Doctors and Dentists) reportedly ame out
unscathed.
The MDCN registrar, Dr Udugbai Ilevbare, said the council wanted only
practitioners "who are fit in terms of academic and other relevant
conditions are registered to practice medicine and dentistry in
Nigeria."
He added that the council did not "want to unleash on unsuspecting
Nigerian practitioners who are not well trained" and welcomed the
successful doctors.
Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, who spoke at their
induction into the council, said the new crops of professionals stood
to boost key human resources for health needed to realise the
country's national strategic health development plan.

28-YEAR-OLD MOTHER SMOTHERED HER BABY TO DEATH WITH QUR'AN TO SAVE HIM FROM THE DEVIL
A 28-year-old mother who smothered her baby to death with a copy of
the Koran told police she was trying to save him from being possessed
by the devil, a court has heard.
The five-month-old boy, who weighed just nine kilograms, was found
with 39 wounds on his body at his home in Halmstad, Sweden, in July
this year.
Most of his injuries were caused by being crushed and battered by the
Muslim holy book, prosecutors said.
'The woman intentionally killed her child. She smothered it to death
and the Koran was the murder weapon,' prosecutor Anders Johansson told
the court.
The 28-year-old mother, who admits the charges, claimed she had
suffered weeks of hallucinations and visions where devil's horns were
growing from her son's head.
'I saw horns growing out of the baby's forehead and long vines on his
body. I saw an old man's head on his body. I wanted to save my baby,
not kill him,' she told the court.
Defence lawyer Goran Ruthberg added: 'My client was in a psychotic
state. She had no intention to kill and considering how she was
feeling, she had no way of predicting what might happen.'
The woman's husband, who cried as he listened to the prosecution's
description of the horrific attack, has forgiven her, according to
Expressen.se.
'She was a good mother and a good wife. It is a horrible thing, but it
was an accident,' he said.
The couple, who are Muslims, reportedly met on the internet and
married after a week.
The father said his wife was overjoyed at the birth of their child but
her mental health soon deteriorated.
A medical examination found that the mother killed her child under the
influence of a serious mental disorder.
She cannot be sentenced to prison if she is convicted of murder,
according to the newspaper. The case continues.

Boko Haram ,We are Ready to Talk ; names Buhari, 5 others as mediators
MAIDUGURI— Leadership of Jama'atul Ahlis Sunnah Lidda'awati Wal Jihad,
also called Boko Haram, has named the former Head of State and
presidential candidate of Congress for Progressive Change, CPC,
General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), among six prominent northerners, to
mediate between the group and the Federal Government.
The Federal Government in a statement by Dr. Reuben Abati,
Presidential Spokesman, Thursday, welcomed the move.
Boko Haram, however, said that for the group to observe ceasefire, the
Federal Government must heed its demand by arresting and prosecuting
the former Governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.
Gen. Buhari
Governor Ibrahim Shettima of Borno State also, Thursday, said security
agencies should be allowed to do their job on those they suspect are
sponsors or sympathisers of the Boko Haram sect.
Shettima told state house correspondents after a meeting of the
National Economic Council that the security challenge in the country
required the efforts of all Nigerians to overcome.
Meanwhile, spokesman of the group, Abu Mohammed Ibn Abdulazeez, who
doubles as the Second-in-Command (Amir) to their leader, Imam Abubakar
Shekau, made the group's intention known in a tele-conference with
journalists in Maiduguri, Thursday.
Mediators
Abdulazeez said other people, who could mediate with the government if
its conditions were met, include Dr. Shettima Ali Monguno, former Yobe
State governor, Bukar Abba Ibrahim, Ambassador Gaji Galtimari and
Hajia Aisha Wakil and her husband, Alkali Wakil.
Dialogue venue
He insisted, however, that such dialogue must not take place in
Nigeria, but Saudi Arabia.
According to him, the choice of Saudi Arabia was informed by the
insincerity of the Nigeria government for dialogue and its betrayal in
the past.
Abdulazeez insisted that for the group to ceasefire completely, the
government must not only apprehend, but prosecute Senator Modu Sheriff
according to the laws of the land as well as compensate members of the
group and rebuild their places of worship destroyed during 2009
uprising, which led to the alleged murder of their leader, Mohammed
Yusuf.
Conditions for ceasefire
The Boko Haram spokesman further stressed that, all their members, who
were arrested and are under the custody of security agencies must be
released immediately, just as their wives and children who were
displaced following the crises should be rehabilitated into the
society to allow room for the much talked about dialogue with the
Federal Government.
Commenting on the series of recent killings and destruction of
property in Maiduguri, Abu Abdulazeez dissociated Boko Haram from the
action, saying such attacks were not only politically-motivated, but
carried out by those seeking power in the Borno Emirate council or in
government.
He stressed that recent killings and destructions in Maiduguri were
against the ideology of the sect, which he said was fighting the cause
of Allah.
Abdulazeez also said the burning of old and newly-constructed primary
schools witnessed across the state were not carried out by the sect,
insisting that they were perpetrated by aggrieved politicians who were
denied contracts by the state government.
Last February, the group had also nominated Monguno, Bukar Ibrahim,
Aisha Wakil and Jinadu Idris as part of a team to mediate between it
and the Federal Government, but the negotiation never got off.
Buhari reacts
Thursday, was, however, the first time the group would be proposing
Gen. Buhari as part of a mediation team between it and the Federal
Government.
Buhari, who returned to Kaduna from Daura, Katsina State, yesterday
evening, said he was yet to be formally contacted on the development.
Buba Galadima, an associate of the former Head of State speaking on
behalf of the General said: "His first reaction is that he has not
heard about this news and nobody has contacted him.
"He said he wouldn't want to say anything on this matter that has not
yet been authenticated, but he remains prayerful that peace and
tranquility will return to this country."
Sheriff's words
Meanwhile, Sheriff, who spoke in Abuja on the issue of the involvement
of politicians with Boko Haram, said: "I think it is within the realm
and the responsibility of the security agencies to unearth the truth.
"I am more of a developmental politician and I am more interested in
addressing the core issues that make our society vulnerable to the
antics of religious bigots and all sorts of misfits that are
indoctrinating our young ones to these things.
"I don't want to dabble into the realm of the security agencies
neither do I want to respond to allegations and accusations from any
quarter.
"But it is the responsibility of security agencies to unearth those
behind Boko Haram."
A veteran journalist Dele Giwa said an evil done by man to man will be
rewarded if not now then later, if not by man then certainly by God.
But the day of evil over good is only temporary.
"I think the problem at hand goes beyond politics. The underlying
factor is poverty. The most important thing is how we can resolve this
problem and restore harmony, peace and how to eradicate endemic
poverty which is the underlying factor of the whole crisis.
"I want to solicit for the media not to dwell on sensationalism but
proper conflict resolution and move our society forward. Its pains me
if a single person is killed by Boko Haram, when innocent souls are
lost.
"Its sheer hooliganism. Its sheer madness for anybody to burn a place
of worship. These are the issue agitating my mind and I don't want to
dwell on politics for now."
