MARK TELLS JONATHAN, OKONJO-IWEALA TO STOP CHASING SHADOWS

Senate President, David Mark, yesterday reflected on the many problems
facing the nation and asked the Head of the Economic Team of President
Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to stop chasing shadows.

Senator Mark in his welcome address to the Senate after an eight-week
recess, observed that Nigeria needs healing to come out of the web of
crisis that has engulfed the nation in recent time.

He also advised the Economic Team, which includes the Central Bank of
Nigeria, CBN, Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and others to come
up with robust economic policies that would salvage the nation from
its economic disasters.



He said: "Those who manage the nation's economy cannot afford to chase
shadows while the economy is in the doldrums. What Nigerians expect,
and deserve, is the introduction of fiscal and monetary policies that
will create jobs, fix healthcare and infrastructure, and stimulate the
economy."

The Senate President also expressed concern over poor budget
performances, demanding that President Jonathan should submit the 2013
budget to the National Assembly early, for quick passage.

He lamented that poor budget implementation had led to a rise in
poverty in the land, stressing that the National Assembly would be
more stringent with oversight to ensure full implementation of 2013
budget.

A ten-year-old boy has been walking to and from school on his hands
every day for the last four years. Yan Yuhong, of Jiaba village,
Yibin, in China's Hubei Province, was left partially paralysed by a
childhood illness.

He initially crawled to get around but learnt to walk on his hands
when he was just four-years-old.Yan has to get up much earlier than
his classmates – as his journey takes him an hour-and-a-half each way.

He can also get about with crutches but says he can walk much faster
on his hands. His sister carries his bag and sometimes his grandmother
carries him to school on her back to save his hands.His father is also
disabled, leaving his mother as the sole bread-winner, but Yan is
determined to
finish his schooling.

"I don't want to quit," he said. "I want to study hard, and support
myself in the future."

HOLLYWOOD : LINDSAY LOHAN ARRESTED FOR LEAVING ACCIDENT AFTER ALLEGEDLY SWIPING MAN WITH CAR

Lindsay Lohan was arrested early Wednesday morning for allegedly
leaving the scene of an accident after she purportedly swiped a
bystander with her car while pulling into a New York City hot spot.



According to an NYPD spokesman, shortly before 1 a.m. the 26-year-old
star and two pals arrived at the posh Dream Hotel in downtown
Manhattan in a black Porsche SUV, which she was supposedly driving.

As she pulled into the hotel, Lohan allegedly clipped a man in his 30s
who was standing nearby and who police say was not a member of the
actress' party. She then reportedly entered the hotel.

The man supposedly suffered an injury to his leg and was taken to a
nearby hospital.

The NYPD says it then received a 911 call alerting them to the
incident, and officers were dispatched to the hotel, where they waited
outside for the actress.

Lohan exited at 2:25 a.m. and was subsequently arrested on suspicion
of leaving the scene of an accident.

The Liz & Dick star, who was dressed in black pants, reportedly did
not resist arrest and was cooperative as she was handcuffed and taken
in a police cruiser to a precinct in midtown Manhattan.

Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the incident, and the
actress was not administered a sobriety test.

Lohan was released shortly after 4:30 a.m. and issued a desk appearance ticket.

LiLo's latest police run-in comes just weeks after she was cleared of
any involvement in a jewelry heist that happened during an overnight
stay at a friend's Hollywood Hills home.

Proscovia Oromait, a female teenager, has contested an election and
won a seat in Uganda's parliament, adding to the ruling party's
majority. Oromait, who is 19 and a college hopeful, contested
elections in eastern Uganda to fill the seat left vacant by her
father's death.

While President Yoweri Museveni's ruling party had been desperate for
a win there – having lost seven in eight parliamentary by-elections
this year – the polls have come to be widely seen as a test of
Museveni's popularity, and some party bosses calculated that she would
win with a sympathy vote.

According to Michael Mukula, a lawmaker who is one of the ruling
party's deputy chairmen, "I am a bit concerned and taken aback because
of her lack of experience and lack of exposure… This is not a
constituency you want to give a child of that age to shoulder."

As a lawmaker, Oromait will be representing a place called Usuk, where
dirt roads become flooded in the rainy season and where there is only
one functional high school. This rural constituency of some 100,000
people is said to be thoroughly impoverished, even by Uganda's
standards.

CONTROVERSY TRAILS RONKE OSHODI'S PREGNANT

It's no longer a story that Ronke Ojo , the well endowed Yoruba
actress popularly known as Ronke Oshodi Oke is pregnant with her
second child.

Cristiano Ronaldo hailed an important victory for Real Madrid after
his goal helped Jose Mourinho's side to come from behind and see off
Manchester City 3-2 at the Bernabeu on Tuesday.

Ronaldo, 27, hit a last-minute winner in his first appearance at the
Bernabeu since his"non-celebration" of goals during the 3-0 La Liga
win over Granada earlier this month, after which he had spoken of his
professional "sadness".

Speaking to reporters after the victory over the Premier League
champions, Ronaldo said he was happy to have scored the winner, for
himself, his team-mates and Real's fans.

"The team needed to win," he said. "It was important to score, if not
me then someone else. It was important and nice. For this I am happy,
for the team and the fans who believed in us from the first minute.

"We showed what Real Madrid is, we ran from the first to the last
minute and we deserved to win."

Ronaldo did not take back his earlier comments however, suggesting
that the reasons for his professional unhappiness – whatever they are
– had yet to be resolved.

"Everybody has the right to be sad," he said. "Have you never been
unhappy? I also have the right to feel that way, it is normal.

"Tonight it is important that people are happy, the fans and not only
the team. The team won, we are good, we began the Champions League
well, nothing else is important. [But] I am not sorry for what I
said."
