“We now have Area Boys, Yahoo Boys and Blackberry Boys” – OBJ warns GEJ of imminent revolution
Former Nigeria's President Olusegun Obasanjo, at the weekend, cried
out about the state of the nation saying a massive revolution looms
unless there is a conscious effort to
improve the state of the nation.
Obasanjo made this assertion while speaking at the West African
regional conference on youth employment in Dakar, Senegal.
The former Owu-born warlord lamented that the unemployment situation
had given birth to categories of youth involved in social crimes whom
he labelled as "area boys, Yahoo boys and, recently, Blackberry boys."
He said the danger posed by an army of unemployed youth in Nigeria can
only be imagined adding that the country may witness a revolution soon
unless the government takes
urgent steps to check growing youth unemployment and poverty.
He said "I'm afraid, and you know I am a General. When a General says
he is afraid, that means the danger ahead is real and potent."
"There is the absence of serious, concrete, realistic, short and long
term solution unemployment."
The former military Head of State referred to the doctorate degree
holders who applied for jobs as drivers at the Dangote Group, saying
"Nigerian youths have been patient enough and that this patience will
soon reach its elastic limit."
OBJ said youth unemployment rate which was 72 per cent in 1999 when he
took over power had been reduced to 52 per cent by 2004 but that the
rate rocketed to 71 per cent by 2011.
Obasanjo called for diversification of the economy saying attention
should be given to agriculture business as against the usual local
farming.
He stressed the need for easy access to land and. micro credit, while
advocating for a review of school curriculum to enable undergraduates
spend additional one year to learn
entrepreneurship.
The conference, sponsored by the Organization for Economic Cooperation
and Development (OECD) and the African Development Bank, was attended
by top bankers from across Africa including the Managing Director of
Nigeria's Bank of Industry, Ms. Evelyn Oputu.

RIM to introduce new BlackBerry 10 devices on January 30
(Reuters) - Research In Motion Ltd plans to introduce its new line of
BlackBerry 10 smartphones on January 30, the company said on Monday,
giving investors a measure of confidence that the long-awaited devices
are nearing completion.
The Waterloo, Ontario-based company, a one-time pioneer in the
smartphone industry, is betting its future on the new products, which
will be powered by its new BlackBerry 10 operating system. Its shares
rose 5.5 percent to $9.01 in trading before the U.S. stock markets
opened.
RIM has struggled over the last two years as its devices lost ground
to snazzier and faster smartphones like Apple Inc's iPhone and Samsung
Electronics' Galaxy line.
RIM said the twice-delayed launch would take place simultaneously in
multiple countries. It will introduce two BlackBerry 10 smartphones as
well as the platform that powers them.
The company has said the first devices will have touchscreens. Phones
with the mini QWERTY keyboards that many long-time BlackBerry users
rave about will come a few weeks later.
The company did not say when the devices will be available in stores.

VIRGIN MARY Appears On Malaysian HOSPITAL Window
Crowds of Catholics have flocked to a Malaysian hospital to hold a
prayer vigil in front of what they believe to be a vision of the
Virgin Mary which has "miraculously" appeared on one of the building's
windows.
More than 100 worshipers, some from hundreds of miles away, have
converged on the Sime Darby Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur, after the
vision appeared a few days ago.
The group, who are convinced that the mysterious mark on the seventh
floor window represents the much revered mother of Jesus Christ, said
that they can also see a second image of her son two windows away.
Visitors have been lighting candles praying and singing hymns close to
the image which has gone viral on Facebook. It has been described by
some on the scene as a "miracle."
Father Lawrence Andrew, editor of Malaysian Catholic newsletter, The
Herald, said that the church would need to investigate and verify the
authenticity of the images and "the experiences of the witnesses."
"It could be private revelations. We have to make sure they are not
imagined but real apparitions," he said.
Eunice Fernandez, who lives nearby, said: "We believe Mary, mother of
God, has a message for us, as she is looking down on us and then at a
Malaysian flag. We can also see Jesus and he is also moving, they are
not static."
The 54-year-old housewife dismissed claims the image could be a hoax.
The hospital have yet to comment on the vision.
