UCHE JOMBO TO PREMIERE 'A MOTHER'S FIGHT' DECEMBER

Star actress, Uche Jombo-Rodriguez will be premiering the movie, A
Mother's Fight in her hometown, Abiriba, on December 24.

It was directed by Ike Nnebue, and it features Uche Jombo-Rodriguez,
Bobby Obodo, Kiki Omeili, Uche Nnanna, Ejike Ibedilo, and Prince
Nwafor.

The Story
Ngozi's journey of the tradition she can't change or accept, in a
place where women are seen not heard. This is not your everyday story.

It is a story of a woman who will take on men and much more for her
girls. Ngozi's world is turned upside down with the shocking news of
her husband's sudden death but this is just the beginning as she is
faced with a bigger fight. The truth stops where tradition and custom
begin.

This is a mother's fight for that which is right and ultimately for
her daughters.

It is an Uche Jombo and You (UJAY) foundation initiative as part of
its community service via the first screening in Abiriba.

The movie is not waging war against the traditions and customs that
have existed for hundreds of years. Nevertheless it is creating a
proactive consciousness in the minds of people that a better life
tomorrow starts with a well thought out plan today.

DINO MELAYE HAS NO HONOUR OR COMMON DECENCY – NGOZI OKONJO-IWEALA

Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance Dr Mrs
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is definitely one of those who are presently not
happy with former member of the House of Representatives, Mr Dino
Melaye.

However, this time around, it has nothing to do with the impregnation
of any Yoruba movie actress or maybe so.

Following a protest by demonstrators at the Federal Ministry of
Finance, calling for the resignation of Okonjo-Iweala, the office of
the minister, through her Senior Special Assistant, Paul C Nwabuikwu,
has released a press statement lambasting Dino Melaye whom, it
believed, is responsible for the protest.

The release reads in part:

"Earlier today, a disreputable former member of the House of
Representatives, Mr Dino Melaye brought a handful of demonstrators to
the Federal Ministry of Finance who conducted themselves in an unruly
manner…

We have it on good authority that Mr Melaye's group was sponsored by
some of the indicted oil barons who are currently being investigated
and prosecuted for subsidy fraud.

Their allegation to wrong subsidy payments made by the Ministry is a
mere ruse to conceal their true motives.

"The Melaye demonstration was ostensibly to call for the resignation
of the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance
who is well known for fighting the fraudulent oil barons whose names
were published by the Federal Ministry of Finance for various breaches
of the subsidy regime…

Nigerians are, of course, not deceived by the antics of Mr Melaye who
has no known pedigree as a civil society activist or even a reputation
for honour or common decency."

CHELSEA BAN RACIST FAN

Gavin Kirkham was arrested on Monday after being identified on social
networking websites following the game last Wednesday, and he was held
on suspicion of a racially aggravated Section 4a Public Order Act
offense before being bailed until Nov. 29.

Chelsea were keen to stress that the 28-year-old Kirkham holds no
membership with the club.

"Chelsea Football Club has banned a 28-year-old man from Stamford
Bridge pending the conclusion of a police investigation into a
possible racially aggravated public order offense," a Chelsea
spokesman said.

"The man is not a current Chelsea FC season ticket-holder or member.
Chelsea is co-operating fully with the police as they carry out their
investigation."

The man was arrested on Monday after attending a West London police
station by appointment

21 YEAR OLD UNILAG STUDENT “JUMPS FROM THIRD FLOOR OF 1004″ TO ESCAPE RAPE BY FACEBOOK FRIEND

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) is reporting that a 21 Year Old
University of Lagos student was "allegedly pushed down from the third
floor of the multi-storey building in Lagos, following a disagreement
with a man she met on the social network, Facebook" while the CSP
Fayoade Adegoke, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Bar Beach,
Victoria Island where the incident was reported, confirms that in the
official police report, the victim alleges that she jumped from the
third floor to escape being raped.

The victim "sustained multiple injuries, including a pelvis fracture,
and was undergoing surgery at the General Hospital, Marina, Lagos, on
Tuesday."

The UNILAG  linguistics student was named in the news report but BN
has chosen not to republish her name.

Here is an excerpt of her story from the NAN Report;

"She met the young man through the social media, barely a week before
the Nov. 1 incident.

She told NAN that the 26-year-old man (names withheld) last Wednesday
invited her to a night club in Apapa from where they ended up in his
family home at 1004 Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos.

She noted that the young man had earlier talked about sex on phone
prior to the outing but she told him she was menstruating.

The victim said that on getting to the house, the man tore her dress
and tried to rape her.

According to the victim, the man thereafter pushed her down from the
third floor of the building because she refused to have sex with him.

When contacted, the mother of the young man, who was at home on the
night of the incident, however, told NAN that she was not aware of
what happened, saying that she slept around 10 p.m., wile the
disageement between the couple started much later.

The mother, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed that she paid part of the
hospital bill immediately after the victim was admitted, and even
tried to transfer her to a private hospital.
"I took her as our own daughter and so, I can do anything that will
make her recover quickly," she added.

She insisted that her preliminary inquiry indicated that victim was
not pushed by her son as alleged, but that she jumped on her own in
the ensuing scuffle.

When contacted, CSP Fayoade Adegoke, the Divisional Police Officer
(DPO) of Bar Beach, Victoria Island, Lagos, told NAN that the victim
wrote in her statement to the police that she jumped on her own, in
order to escape being raped.

Adegoke said that he ordered his men to convey the victim to the
hospital immediately after he was informed of the incident by night
security guards in the area.

The DPO said that the suspect was released on bail, pending further
investigation into the matter."

There are several disturbing questions and issues that are raised by
this incident and news story.

Why is the victim named and the accused's name is withheld? Why does
the accused's mother have access to the victim?

The victim has released contradictory statements – she reported that
she jumped to escape to the Police and that she was pushed to the
press whether the victim jumped or was pushed off the building, it
illustrates the severity of the crime.

The crime allegedly occurred in the accused's parents' house while
they were home! What does this say about our value system?

In February 2012, Susan Yusuf of SuzyQ was murdered and her killer
jumped to his death in 1004, a disturbing pattern seems to be emerging
from the popular condomium complex.

Absolutely noone deserves to be raped, even if sex was discussed on
the phone and a nightclub was visited.

After, the tragic Cynthia Osokogu, we advise young women and men to be
wise about who they interract with online and how they transition
those relationships into the real world.

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)

Waltham College, London Mr. Chiwuzie Godson Chiedozie for an attempt
to smuggle about 1.535 kilogrammes of cocaine through the Murtala

UNIPORT RE-OPENS FOR ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

The university was shut down on October 9 following protest by
students over the murder of their colleagues at Omuokiri village,
Aluu, one of the host communities of the institution.

A statement by the Deputy Registrar, Information of the University,
Dr. Williams Wodi, said the senate of the school took the decision to
re-open the institution at a meeting held last night.

He said the authorities were satisfied that peace had returned to the
neighbouring communities and that the security of staff and students
were guaranteed.

"I can confirm to you that the Senate met in an Emergency meeting on
Wednesday (yesterday) and directed that the University be reopened
immediately for resumption of normal academic activities.

"All students have been directed to return to the Campus on between
now and the weekend, while lectures will commence on Monday. The
resumption was sequel to the return of peace to the University's
neighbourhood, especially Omuokiri, in Aluu.

"The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ajienka, has met with the
landlords who have guaranteed the safety of students and staff," he
said.

The university was shut down when the National Association of Nigerian
Students (NANS) led a students protest against the murder of four
students of the university at Omuokiri village, Aluu on October 5.

The killings of the students generated national and international
interest as the video clips of the murder were broadcast in the social
media.

Mariah Carey Unveils Tribute Song to President Obama

Mariah Carey has impeccable timing--and not just because she's a
musician. Following President Barack Obama's historic reelection last
night, the "Vision of Love" diva and Obama booster released a new song
online paying poignant tribute to the commander in chief as he gears
up for another term in office.

The tune, "Bring It on Home," is a slow-moving, soulful ballad that
reflects the communal values the president espoused in his soaring
acceptance speech and ever since he burst onto the national stage--the
idea that America is a better, stronger and more perfect union when we
care for our fellow neighbors.
