Solar Plexus – Mavin All stars
The D'Banj-Don Jazzy breakup was one of the top music events of 2012.
The release of the Don Jazzy-led Mavin All star album, 'Solar plexus'
sadly wasn't. And there are no prizes for guessing why. The problems
are legion; weak delivery, over reliance on lavish beats,
underutilization of Wande Coal,puerile lyrics and a general lack of
cohesion. Proponents argue it was a project put together in a hurry
but we say it is still no excuse.


The Statement – Sammie Okposo
There is a reason Sammie Okposo's latest album of gospel tunes was
largely ignored by the record buying populace. It isn't a good album.
The heavy-handed production values attempts to gloss over the fact
that Mr Okposo didnot have a lot to offer this time around but the
cracks kept showing.


Selah – J. Martins
J Martins' latest contains 15 unremarkable and utterly repetitive
songs and isabout as exciting as a dental extraction proceedure. There
is a desperate lack of identity as all of the songs could have easily
been recorded by any of Mr Martins' contemporaries.
Selah may be Hebrew for pause and think but neither attributes were
employed in the crafting of this record.


Omo Baba Olowo: The Genesis – Davido
At the start of 2012, with his ubiquitous hit singles and flashy
videos, Davido was the man to beat, up until he released what is
perhaps the most disappointing record of the year. O.B.O may have been
meant to let us have a good time but it fails terribly at it's primary
assignment. It is unbearably tedious, sinks where it should swim and
drags us down with it's weight. This is one album we still wish never
happened.


Footprints – Duncan Mighty
'Footprints', consisting of 18 tracks is filled with flops like
'Rejection to attraction', 'Wine it' (with Shaggy) and just about
every other song on the disc. It is pale, repetitive, tedious,
uninspiring and Timaya has no reason to be looking over his back.

Nokia loses top cellphone brand crown for the first time in 14 years

Samsung has displaced Nokia as the world's largest selling cellphone
brand in 2012, according to iHS iSuppli research. Samsung had
overtaken Nokia inoverall cellphone shipments in the first quarter of
2012 for the first time in 14 years and continued with its strong
performance through the year. This is the first time since 1998 that
Nokia is not the numero uno cellphone brand atthe end of the year,
with 2012 being the tipping point for smartphone sales as they
accounted for nearly half the sales.


Nokia stumbled in its smartphonestrategy while Samsung built a
complete smartphone portfolio this year, consistently estimated to
sell over 50 million smartphones a quarter. Samsung also significantly
widened the gap with Apple in the smartphone space with a dozens of
low, mid and high-end smartphones running on Android.


According to the report, Samsung now accounts for 29 percent of global
cellphone shipments as against Nokia's 24 percent. In 2011, Nokia led
the space with a 30 percent market share as opposed to Samsung's 24
percent. Inour view, the number would have been even lower had it not
been for Nokia's Asha series of smart feature phones. Nokia shipped
6.5 million unitsof its Asha phones last quarter. Nokia's loss also
translated into Apple's gainas it accounted for 10 percent of global
cellphone shipments against 7 percentlast year. ZTE and LG complete
the top five cellphone brands for 2012.


In the smartphone space, Samsung again leads the pack with 28 percent
of the market share followed by Apple at 20 percent. Nokia, RIM and
HTC complete the top five with 5 percent market share each.

Iyabo Ojo prepares to float her own Restaurant

Nollywood actors have in the past years put their hands into other
areas including fashion, music and modeling. While a few have managed
to be successful, a lot more have failed at it.


A new entrant is Yoruba actress, Iyabo Ojo who recently disclosed
plans to float her restaurant in the first quarter of 2013 according
to info! gathered from NET .
This decision, she says was borne out of her love for cooking and
hospitality, is that so !!!


Well Ojo will then join celebrities like Kefee, Kenny St Best and a
host of others who are flirting with hospitality. Ojo made her debut
in 1998 in the movie Satanic and has since featured in over 50 other
movies till date .

Show of shame: Police officers, Civil Defence Corps members engage in public fight

Ten Police officers on Tuesday afternoon engaged in a public fight
with threeCivil Defence Corps members at Berger roundabout in Abuja.


The ferocious clash caused a major gridlock at Berger Roundabout up to
Utako Area of Abuja.
It was gathered that the police officers purportedly engaged in a
fight with the civil defence officers for over interference in their
reserved duty.


According to eyewitnesses "the police officers were trying to stop a
vehicle and the Civil Defence people came to interfere, then the
police officers who were more in number attacked them and started
beating them up." It was further disclosed that there were sporadic
gunshots as both parties lashed out whips at one other.


"There were gunshots and then I saw a police officer flogging a Civil
Defenceofficer with a whip while he was trying to run away," a witness
said.


It took the intervention of a Divisional Police Officer from Utako
Police Station to resolve the fracas. The spokesperson of the Abuja
Police Command, Doris England, has claimed that she is not aware of
the situation and would make inquires aboutit.

Tunde is leaving, but STYL Plus is not ‘breaking up’.

After working for nine years as an R&B group – STYL Plus will be
saying goodbye to one of its founding members Tunde Akinsanmi .


Over the weekend, the news of Tunde leaving to pursue a solo career
hit the 'blog arena'. The group has now told source that Tunde is
leaving, but STYL Plus is not 'breaking up'.


' We owe it to our fans to clear the air on this matter. In the
process of working towards a collective vision, in this vein, Tunde
Akinsanmi has decided to pursue a solo career and delve into other
ventures that are not Styl-Plus's priority at the moment ', a rep for
the group and One Management said in a statement.


The statement says the group's musical projects will go on as usual:
Shifi and Zeal say they'll be releasing a new single titled ' Tonight'
(Ale-Oni) in the coming weeks. They are also warming up to release new
singles produced by the likes of Wizboy, TK and Landlord ' We thank
all the fans and media whose unwavering support we have enjoyed so far
and continue to enjoy ', they added.


STYL Plus launched into the mainstream back in 2003 but their musical
journey started way long before then; the group was originally formed
in the '90s by Shifi Emoefe, Tunde Akinsanmi, Yemi Akinwonmi , and
Lanre Faneyi giving birth to the initial nameSTYL.


In 1999, Faneyi passed away. A young singer Zeal Onyecheme replaced
him; rebranding the group's name to STYL Plus. Three years later
Akinwonmi left.


In 2003, the group released their first set of singles – 'Olufunmi'
and 'Runaway' which remain evergreen. In 2006, they released their
first studio album ' Expressions ', which included the hits – '
Imaginethat ', ' Always on my mind ', ' Drive me crazy ', and ' Iya
Basira '.
Going on a small hiatus, they returned in 2008 with the club hit 'Four
years' off their ' Back and Better ' album.

School Principal Quizzed For Conducting Virginity Test On Female Students

Principal, Ajuwon Senior High School, Ajuwon, Ifo Local Government
Area, Ogun State, Rev. Olufunke Oladeojobi , has been quizzed by the
police for allegedly conducting virginity tests on the pupils.


PUNCH Metro learnt that Oladeojobi, who was described as a strict
disciplinarian, by her pupils called in a nurse and jointly carried
out virginity tests on a group of 10 students last week Monday.


It was further learnt that the principal did not seek the consent of
the parents/guardians of the pupils before conducting the test on
Senior Secondary School 1 pupils.
During the test, it was alleged that the principal and the nurse whose
name could not be ascertained allegedly dipped their fingers into the
pupils' private parts.


When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer of Ajuwon Division, Mr.
Waheed Yusuf, a Chief Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident
to our correspondent.
He said the investigation into the matter was still "ongoing" and
declined further comment until "investigations were concluded." But, a
policeman attached to the station who spoke on the condition of
anonymity said Oladeojobi owned up to the incident.


He said, "She confessed that she conducted virginity tests on the
pupils and that 'she was trying to help them.' We took her in for
questioning on Thursday and Friday but she was not detained as my
superiors were taking into consideration that she is a civil servant.
"We might have some problems if she (Oladeojobi) is to be charged to
court for sexual assault because the matter was reported to the police
late and no medical examination was immediately done on the affected
pupils to use as aproof in the law court." Hope the helpless students
will get justice.

Justin Bieber & Ashton Kutcher Cops Make Arrest of Faking Violence ' Pranks '

I just got an email from a friend talking about the drama that sprouts
between bieber and kutcher. The LAPD has made an arrest in the
SWATTING incidents involving Ashton Kutcher and Justin Bieber -- and
the suspect is a minor.


What happens was that someone called cops and reported gun violence
at both homes during separate incidents earlier this year. Officials
say during the Kutcher incident, the caller had advised cops that
"there were individuals inside the location with guns and explosives,
and that several people had been shot.


"But when police arrived to the scene, they learned that it was all a
hoax. Now, cops say ... "On December 10, 2012, Hollywood Detectives
arrested a juvenile from the Southern California region for the Ashton
Kutcher swatting incident, as well as a similar awaiting incident that
took place at the home of Justin Bieber. Other swatting incidents
involving this individual have been observed .
