The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) is reporting that a 21 Year Old
University of Lagos student was "allegedly pushed down from the third
floor of the multi-storey building in Lagos, following a disagreement
with a man she met on the social network, Facebook" while the CSP
Fayoade Adegoke, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Bar Beach,
Victoria Island where the incident was reported, confirms that in the
official police report, the victim alleges that she jumped from the
third floor to escape being raped.
The victim "sustained multiple injuries, including a pelvis fracture,
and was undergoing surgery at the General Hospital, Marina, Lagos, on
Tuesday."
The UNILAG linguistics student was named in the news report but BN
has chosen not to republish her name.
Here is an excerpt of her story from the NAN Report;
"She met the young man through the social media, barely a week before
the Nov. 1 incident.
She told NAN that the 26-year-old man (names withheld) last Wednesday
invited her to a night club in Apapa from where they ended up in his
family home at 1004 Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos.
She noted that the young man had earlier talked about sex on phone
prior to the outing but she told him she was menstruating.
The victim said that on getting to the house, the man tore her dress
and tried to rape her.
According to the victim, the man thereafter pushed her down from the
third floor of the building because she refused to have sex with him.
When contacted, the mother of the young man, who was at home on the
night of the incident, however, told NAN that she was not aware of
what happened, saying that she slept around 10 p.m., wile the
disageement between the couple started much later.
The mother, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed that she paid part of the
hospital bill immediately after the victim was admitted, and even
tried to transfer her to a private hospital.
"I took her as our own daughter and so, I can do anything that will
make her recover quickly," she added.
She insisted that her preliminary inquiry indicated that victim was
not pushed by her son as alleged, but that she jumped on her own in
the ensuing scuffle.
When contacted, CSP Fayoade Adegoke, the Divisional Police Officer
(DPO) of Bar Beach, Victoria Island, Lagos, told NAN that the victim
wrote in her statement to the police that she jumped on her own, in
order to escape being raped.
Adegoke said that he ordered his men to convey the victim to the
hospital immediately after he was informed of the incident by night
security guards in the area.
The DPO said that the suspect was released on bail, pending further
investigation into the matter."
There are several disturbing questions and issues that are raised by
this incident and news story.
Why is the victim named and the accused's name is withheld? Why does
the accused's mother have access to the victim?
The victim has released contradictory statements – she reported that
she jumped to escape to the Police and that she was pushed to the
press whether the victim jumped or was pushed off the building, it
illustrates the severity of the crime.
The crime allegedly occurred in the accused's parents' house while
they were home! What does this say about our value system?
In February 2012, Susan Yusuf of SuzyQ was murdered and her killer
jumped to his death in 1004, a disturbing pattern seems to be emerging
from the popular condomium complex.
Absolutely noone deserves to be raped, even if sex was discussed on
the phone and a nightclub was visited.
After, the tragic Cynthia Osokogu, we advise young women and men to be
wise about who they interract with online and how they transition
those relationships into the real world.

STUDENT WITH 1.535KG COCAINE ARE ARRESTED
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)
yesterday arrested a 23-year-old student of Management Accounting at
Waltham College, London Mr. Chiwuzie Godson Chiedozie for an attempt
to smuggle about 1.535 kilogrammes of cocaine through the Murtala
Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
The suspect was nabbed by official of the anti-narcotics agency when
he tested positive to drug ingestion during the screening of
passengers on an Arik flight to London.
Speaking on the arrest, NDLEA Airport Commander, Mr. Hamza Umar
pointed that after arresting the suspect, he was placed under
observation where he excreted about 92 pellets of substances that
tested positive to cocaine weighing 1.535 kilogrammes.
According to Hamza, the suspect was also found in possession of two tickets.
"Chiwuzie presented a valid Asky ticket from Lagos to Lome at the
screening but during search, a valid Arik ticket from Lagos to London
was recovered in his luggage.
The Lome ticket was to divert attention from him but besides having
multiple tickets, he also tested positive for drug ingestion," Hamza
further explained.
The NDLEA Airport Commander also stressed that from investigation
conducted, the agency gathered that Chiedozie had lived in London
since 2009 where he was recruited to smuggle drugs in his school at
Waltham College, London.
Narrating his ordeal, Mr.Chiedozie pointed out that he was lured into
trafficking drugs with a promise that he was going to be paid £3,500
pounds with which he intended to pay his tuition fees.

Mariah Carey Unveils Tribute Song to President Obama
Mariah Carey has impeccable timing--and not just because she's a
musician. Following President Barack Obama's historic reelection last
night, the "Vision of Love" diva and Obama booster released a new song
online paying poignant tribute to the commander in chief as he gears
up for another term in office.
The tune, "Bring It on Home," is a slow-moving, soulful ballad that
reflects the communal values the president espoused in his soaring
acceptance speech and ever since he burst onto the national stage--the
idea that America is a better, stronger and more perfect union when we
care for our fellow neighbors.

Bollywood King ; Shahrukh Khan turns 47 today
As Shahrukh Khan turns 47 today, we cherry-pick quotes from the
superstar that have inspired us, made us grin and helped us discover a
different dimension of his personality
Born on November 2, 1965, Shahrukh Khan is also known as the 'Badshah
of Bollywood'.
And if you are one of those hardcore Shahrukh Khan fans who stops
surfing TV channels whenever he appears onscreen and listens to his
interviews with rapt attention, you
must have noticed that the actor has the habit contradicting him at
every given point- and we find that very endearing.
Substantiating our opinions, the actor himself said in an interview
that 'We aren't human if we don't contradict ourselves'. So if he
claims to be a luxury freak in one interview, in the very next confab
don't be surprised if you hear him claiming that the finer things in
life don't matter
to him much.
Khan makes you discover something interesting about him every time he
opens his mouth. And since his wit, his presence of mind and his
quirky perspective form such an integralp part of his personality, we
thought that extracting cool quotes by Khan from diverse places – from
websites to tabloids – would be the best way to celebrate his
birthday.

Fame and love is a gift from God
and for that reason alone
I feel rich than 10 Bill Gates put together
But at the end of it all, you come to
Bombay, and there's a side of you
that nobody's seen. People now say,
he's stylish, intelligent, etc. Nobody
sees that basically I'm quite a
cheapster from Delhi.
Sometimes girls say they like me. I
don't know what to say, so before
she thinks I'm foolish or asexual, I
just say something funny. The best
way to kill romance is to joke.
I don't mind people criticising my
films. But when things get personal, I
don't like it. I know for every 50
people in the industry who don't like
my film for personal reasons, there
are 30 million people out there who
love it.
There are times I feel extremely
lonely and talking to my dogs seems
the only option Age is not my forte either. I still
cannot fix my own – am I 45 or 15?
If I could, would I be romancing girls
one third my age who normally
would call me 'Uncle'?
I momentarily lose my ability to give
up and close up. And here's where
the trick is – when you are in this
place of despair, where the world is
staring you down into yourself,
there's only one thing you can do to
survive: hang on to who you are
inside.
For someone who doesn't even like
love stories, I've played an awful lot
of lovers.
I don't like the trappings of stardom.
I wear the shoes and the Dolce &
Gabbana because I am told to. But I
am not trapped by it.
I am very shy. If I am flying British
Airways and the airhostess asks me
two questions, and I don't
understand her accent – I will go
hungry for the entire flight.
I believe in having long lasting
relationships. So you see, I'm still
with Gauri. These relationships,
according to me, cannot be changed,
off and on. I belong to the middle
class thought of school and I am
happy with my Gauri.

Aliko Dangote made the list of world’s richest people.
Nigerian business mogul Aliko Dangote has made Bloomberg's list of
world's richest people.
Bloomberg Markets' inaugural list of the world's richest people, in
the magazine's December 2012 issue, showcases the billionaires who
pull the levers on the global economy.
As noted on the magazine's website, the ranking shows who's on top
(America Movil SAB Chairman Emeritus Carlos Slim, with a net worth of
$77.5 billion), who's faltering (Facebook Inc. Chief Executive Officer
Mark Zuckerberg, who's down $6.8 billion since Jan. 1) and who's just
wealthy enough to make the top 200 (SAS Institute Inc. co-founder John
Sall, who's worth $5.8 billion).
Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, both in the top five, are household
names. At the number 3 position is the relatively unknown Amancio
Ortega of Spain. The 76-year-old founded Inditex SA, the world's
largest clothing retailer, which is known for its more than 1,600
trendy Zara stores. He made more than $18 billion from the start of
the year through Oct. 5 or about $66 million a day.
Aliko Dangote came 62nd on the list with a total net worth of $13.5
billion. The 55 year-old Chairman of Dangote Group has made another
$3.5 billion so far this year, increasing his wealth by 34.5%
Dangote is not the only African on the list. Egypt's Nassef Sawiris
was listed on the 141th position having a net worth of $7.8 billion.
South Africa's Nicky Oppenheimer and Johann Rupert made the 147th and
187th positions respectively. Their net worths are $7.6 billion and
$6.2 billion. This still leaves Aliko Dangote as the richest man in
Africa.
Aliko Dangote has worked his way to the top and has dragged Nigeria
along, as he continues to put the country's name on world map. The
self-made business magnate has a knack for seeing opportunities where
others can't. The patriotic Nigerian once said; "Let me tell you this
and I want to really emphasize it…nothing is going to help Nigeria
like Nigerians bringing back their money. If you give me $5 billion
today, I will invest everything here in Nigeria. Let us put our heads
together and work."

world's richest people.
