Attack on Awolowo - Has Achebe gone too far? Nigerians React

Renowned writer Chinua Achebe is not a man that runs away from
controversy. In recent memory, his rejection of the national honours
bestowed on him by Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan's
administrations became subject of national debate.

He is in the eyes of the storm, again. His long awaited war memoirs '
There was a Country' , became public last week and, as expected,
Achebe is getting the hits for accusing the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo
of genocide in the book.

Below is the controversial excerpt from the book:
"It is my impression that Awolowo was driven by an overriding ambition
for power, for himself and for his Yoruba people. There is, on the
surface at least, nothing wrong with those aspirations."However,
Awolowo saw the dominant Igbo at the time as the obstacles to that
goal, and when the opportunity arose – the Nigeria-Biafra War – his
ambition drove him into
a frenzy to go to every length to achieve his dreams.

"In the Biafran case, it meant hatching up a diabolical policy to
reduce the numbers of his enemies significantly through starvation –
eliminating over two million people, mainly members of future
generations." Reactions from
the Southwest & beyond

Chief Olaniwun Ajayi, chieftain of the pan-Yoruba organisation, Afenifere,

"It is a great error, he never said anything about what Awolowo did to
prevent the civil war," Ebenezer Babatope, former Transport and
Aviation Minister "While Achebe is free to write on any topic that
suits his fancy, he has no right whatsoever to irresponsibly murder
history by recklessly attacking a great leader like Papa Awolowo.
Nigerians should expect detailed, honest, factual and objective
replies to the Achebe nonsense after we have copies of the book in our
hands."

"This is not the first time that Achebe will publish scathing attacks
on Papa Awo. He did it in his book written about 30yrs ago titled 'The
trouble with Nigeria'. The battle against falsehood has started."

Dr. Omolulu Olulonyo, former Oyo state governor

"It is unfortunate that Professor Achebe could label Chief Awolowo as
a tribalist. Both Awo and Zik were members of the Nigerian Youth
Movement.

"He cannot begin now to blame Awolowo for the war. Awolowo did not
start the war; rather, he pleaded against it. The only thing that he
said then was that if, by any error, the Igbo were allowed to leave
the federation, Yoruba would also leave. "The civil war was started by
the Igbo. The Igbo, in the course of the war, killed many Yoruba and
Hausa/Fulani leaders, including Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Alhaji
Ahmadu Bello, Chief Ladoke Akintola, Festus Okotie-Eboh and many
officers, including. Ademulegun, Maimalari, leaving out their own,
like Micheal Okpara.

"Even while they were in government, (Ironsi's government), the Igbo
spared no thought of freeing Awolowo who was then in prison. So, why
should the man be now labeled a tribalist?",

Yinka Odumakin, Save Nigeria Group Spokesperson

"It is unfortunate that a great man of letters of Achebe's status has
descended to the arena
of Biafran propagandists who are always ready to sacrifice the truth
to achieve emotional blackmail. "He has betrayed his intellectual
calling by joining in the circulation of low quality rumours against
Awo. I had looked forward to read the book, but now I doubt if I would
pick
up a copy even if dropped at my gate."

Prof. Tony Afejukwu, an Itsekiri leader "I find the foremost novelist
lambasting of our iconic politician and impeccable leader, Chief
Awolowo utterly strange. But why should we really
be surprised? Even in death, Awo, our Awo, is still the issue. This
being said, we must dismiss the illustrious novelist who must sell his
autobiography! He needs to attack Awo
for the book to make appreciable sale, an inroad in western Nigeria of
solidly educated and civilized denizens. But his tactic will backfire
if truly that was an intention of Achebe, our respected, Achebe, who
with this unforgettable grudge of decades will lose a huge chunk of
respect of, and from discerning minds.

"Now we must ask: Did he expect Awo to device a strategy for Biafra to
defeat Nigeria? In any case, Achebe ought to promote peace,
understanding reconciliation and love as a foremost novelist of
Nigeria, Africa and theworld. he ought to be exemplary.

Join in the debate: Do you agree with Achebe 's portrayal of Awolowo
or has the author gone too far? Culled from vanguard

GHANA WOMEN ARE THE WORLD’S ‘MOST UNFAITHFUL

Women from Ghana and Thailand landed the top spots as the world's most
unfaithful lovers in a new survey.
According to the survey carried out by condom producer Durex on 29,000
women in 36 countries, Malaysian women came third – 39 per cent
admitting they often cheat on their mates, behind Ghana (62 per cent)
and Thailand (59 per cent).

In fourth and fifth place were Russia (33 per cent) and Singapore (19
per cent) respectively, Star Online reported.
Among couples cheating on each other, Malaysia trailed behind South
Korea and chart-topper Thailand.

The same survey placed men from Singapore and Hong Kong as being the
most promiscuous in Asia, with an average of 16 bed partners in their
lifetime.

The questions is, what were the yardsticks they used in conducting
their poll? How many women did they talk to and what scientific
methods did they employ to arrive at such a sweeping verdict?
Ghana women are not the most notorious in that regard. I have friends
from other ethnicities who are married, and at the same time keep
multiple lovers, and I, happily married to my husband for ten years
now, have only strayed once, and why I did that was because we were
having problems that appeared intractable at the time.

Since my husband and I got back together, I have never cheated on him
and don't intend to. " Linda, who asked that I keep her last name out
of print, had told me. To Kwesi–a business owner in Hartford,
Connecticut, such definition serves the women right "It has been a
known fact within our community and even in our native country that
our women have not been faithful to their husbands.

Here in the Diaspora, you can't tell your wife to keep away from
certain associations, she will lash out at you, and tell
you to mind your business that she is an adult, and knows how to take
care of herself- including knowing when to say no to an amorous
overtures. It is so depressing to so defined, I hope they will take or
two things from this survey and give respect to their marital status."

"I think the poll is spot-on" a lady who had pleaded to remain
anonymous had told me. "I am not proud to say it; a lot of our married
women sleep around. At least among my circle of friends- we have at
one point or the other maintained other relationships. Sometimes, the
driving impulse may not even be for material gains, but for the thrill
of it.

But we are not different from other Africans. I know some
Nigerian friends of mine, who are married too, but have lovers
outside. I think our men should find the revelation a means to
challenge themselves and ask what it is they are doing that is not
right. I don't think a woman will willingly
go out there to cheat on her husband if the 'game' is tight at home,
if you know what I mean"

What do you readers think? We will like to have your reactions.

MEN HERE ARE THE 10 SIGNS SHE IS THE ONE FOR YOU !!

There are a lot of lists out there for women about how to find The One
– that special person they could build a life with. But what qualities
would make a WOMAN a great partner?

1) Your life is better when she's around. Things start to click. You
land that new job. She helps you get your stuff organized. You start
cooking again. She just makes you want to be a better person.

2) Your close buddies and family can't help but be charmed by her.
Maybe you don't care what other people think, and that's fine. Isn't
it nice, though, when your family and friends are just as enamoured
with your girlfriend as you are? When you can all hang out and she
holds her own? When she's joking and listening to your grandma's
stories?

3) She's motivated and handles her business. Motivation can be a huge
turn-on for guys. Somebody who can handle her business (whether that
means working hard at her job, or juggling clients as a freelancer, or
planning her future) is somebody who you can rely on.

4) She has your back. It means so much to know that your partner is in
your corner and you owe it to her to be in hers. When you feel
supported, it makes a world of difference.

5) She is critical of you. Somebody who cares for you wants you to
succeed, and she will help you, even if it means tough love. We're not
talking about nagging (which is THE WORST). We're talking about
somebody who keeps it real when you need her to. She gives you honest
feedback. She calls out your messy room. Yeah, you may be mad at
first, but you'll appreciate it later.

6) You trust her, but you are still a bit jealous. Guys like the
thought that they have to work to keep my relationship going, and they
like knowing that people think their girlfriends are hot. It's a sort
of an ego game. But a bit of jealousy shows you care.

7) She is funny – this is very important. Dating somebody without a
sense of humour, or even a wildly different sense of humour, is
torture. If she laughs at your jokes, and you at hers, she is probably
a keeper.

8) She is in the same place as you. As experience of dating shows,
timing and location can impact relationships more than just about
anything else. Does she want to travel the world? Is she stable? Does
she just want something casual? Is she interested in having kids? Is
she religious? A lot of these questions can be deal-breakers, and the
more you have in common, the better.

9) You have sexual chemistry. This is critical. She isn't your friend,
she's your romantic partner. If the sex isn't happening, and it can't
be saved with therapy and lots of talking, then you may need to dump
her.

10) She makes you feel like a man. You may not naturally be a
terrifically manly man: you may do sports, and keep in shape, and look
good in a suit. In a lot of ways, however, men can be pretty
childlike. Consequently, it is important to be in a relationship with
somebody who doesn't constantly emasculates you. Even the most
liberal, bicycle-riding, skinny-jeans wearing dandy likes to feel like
a high-status man sometimes.

PHOTO: HOW PASTOR SLEPT WITH 14 YEAR OLD GIRL IN THE NAME OF DELIVERANCE !!

Ngozi Offor yesterday told an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court how Senior
Pastor Basil Princewill of Mountain Movers Fire Ministry allegedly
defiled her 14-year-old daughter (names withheld) and made her undergo
an abortion after she became pregnant.

The pastor, Apostle Basil Princewill and Pauline Okoh were charged with criminal
conspiracy, impersonation, intimidation, force and assault, which are
offences contrary to Sections 97, 179, 397 (B) and 268 of the Penal
Code.

The woman, who was led in evidence by Prosecutor Bulus Samuel, said
her daughter told her that the pastor invited her for a deliverance
exercise and requested for oil as well as handkerchief. She alleged
that on the appointed day, the pastor asked her daughter to undress
and when she tried to protest, he slapped her.

"He is feared so much in the church and known as papa," the mother
said. She alleged further that the pastor poured oil on her daughter
and told her that the next part of the exercise is supposed to be
performed by her husband but since she does not have one, he will
represent him.

"He undressed himself and put a handkerchief on my daughter's head,
which made her dumb before having carnal knowledge of her," the mother
alleged.

She said when the pastor discovered that her daughter had missed her
period; he made her undergo an abortion. The woman also told the court
that people in the church thaught the pastor was a lawyer because he
usually writes in his fliers, almanac and books that he read law and
philosophy. A copy of the flier and almanac were tendered as exhibits
in the court.

When the prosecutor then sought to know whether the woman had the
original copy of the medical report in court, she said photocopies
were submitted to the police while the original was at home. The
prosecutor then sought for adjournment in the case so that the
victim's mother can tender the required documents, which were not in
her possession in court.

The defense counsel objected to the request and urged the court to
compel the prosecutor to tell the court the nature of the document. He
said the prosecutor ought to have been prepared for his case, adding
that the document from the evidence is a scan test certificate that
should be presented by a medical doctor.

Senior Magistrate Shuaibu Ahmed adjourned the case to November 13.

Comedian Basketmouth - I Am Re-branding Myself

Comedian, Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth shot into
limelight wearing full dreadlocks. On different occasions the gangling
entertainer wasn't sure about his willingness to change his look. But
recently, the Igbo big boy is totally wearing a new look, he said his
wife
influenced that new look.

Meanwhile, he has confessed that his new look is synonymous to his
re-branding which he says it's the only thing that's constant in
life.Hear what Bright says about his new look, "yes, I'm re-branding
myself as well as my company, Barons World Entertainment, which
originally was just an event company but it will now be expanding
beyond organizing concerts
into other wholesome entertainment content such as music production
and promotions, talent
agency and services that make Barons World Entertainment direct
representatives of some of
the biggest names in the Nigeria entertainment industry.

I am convinced Nigerian entertainment is ripe and up there with the
best entertainment industries in the world. It's the best time to
reposition one's brand and take advantage of the period."

Wande Coal & KSB At war !! As KSB Takes On PMAN, NBC Again

You already know that Nigerian gospel singer,Kenny St Best, who took
on Wande Cole's controversial song, Go Low's video, won the case as
the musical video was banned a few
days after that declaration.

As you're reading this now, the former wife of. Asiodu Brown, KSB has
challenged the Performing Musician Association of Nigeria, over the
body's inability to regulate the content of music videos being
released by its members.

The singer also said the decadence portrayed in the videos was
assuming a terrible dimension. Hear her opinion, "the fact that every
industry has a body that governs and checks its activities
and the music industry has none has made it an all-comer affair.
Nobody is regulating us.

PMAN has failed in itself. If the body is doing its job properly, it
is not in my place to fight it. But I will make noise and criticise my
colleagues openly. It is getting terrible." It will be recalled that
the petite artiste recently caused a stir on Twitter when she
challenged the Marvin Crew boss, Don Jazzy, over the semi-nudity in
Wande Coal's music video, Go Low.

Although the video was banned shortly after, KSB has come under attack
from fans and critics who felt that she went a step too far. In
defence, she says, "It was not a personal attack. I had to reach out
to Don Jazzy because he is a big guy in the industry and so people
will naturally follow him; more so Wande Coal is an artiste under his
label. If I don't make it a
duty to speak out as a woman and practitioner them I have failed, I
had to speak out on Twitter to my colleagues because I felt it is a
better forum, even if they do not get to read it, their
followers will read and re-tweet. NBC should wake up. It is not until
a video has been well played and thoroughly digested that the
regulators should now act."

KSB also says the power to stop the trend also lies in the hands of TV
stations. "If the NBC cannot nip this trend in the bud,
then the TV stations should set up a department to screen the videos
before they hit the screen. There must be a penalty. It is getting too
bad and has an effect on children, women and men.
Little wonder there is an increase in rape cases," she concluded.
